NUR 292 Professional Self in Society: Foundations for Leadership

Prerequisite: Student must be a Nursing major.

Course Description: This course provides an introduction into the leadership concepts and principles which are foundational to the development of the 21st century nurse leader. This course focuses on understanding nursing as a profession and on activities relating to professional role development as an entry level nursing leader. Concepts and issues affecting professional nursing practice are analyzed within a local, national, and global perspective. Students have an opportunity to participate in self-reflection, political activism, and critical thinking through career portfolio development, written and online assignments, and selected other activities that demonstrate the professional role of the entry level nurse leader. Emphasis is placed on enhancing communication skills, encouraging creativity, and developing professional goals.
