CHE 223 Organic Chemistry I

Students must fulfill the prerequisite or its equivalent.

Course Description: A study of organic compounds and organic reactions. Emphasis is placed on the use of reaction mechanisms and the relationship between structure and reactivity. Topics include the alkanes, the alkenes, the alkynes, alicyclic hydrocarbons, aromatics, stereochemistry and spectroscopy. Laboratory includes instruction in the preparation of organic compounds and the use of instrumental techniques.

Course Rotation: Fall and Summer.
