NURS 750 Building Cultural Competency for Advanced Nursing Practice

Course Description: This course provides students with the fundamental tools necessary to build cultural competence using an evidence-based practice framework within a primary health care environment. Students will explore theoretical models and concepts that culturally based care are offered to enhance their skills and abilities as practitioners and educators. Various models will be studied, with particular emphasis on those that include concepts of considering health care disparities, access to health care, and educational settings, access to nursing education, the historical and current representation of various ethnic, religious and racial groups in nursing, and global nursing supply and demand. The student will have an opportunity to consider their own values and beliefs in the context of delivering culturally competent care and education.
