SCI 296K Topics: The Physics of Music

Course Description: This is an introductory course in acoustics that explored the physical principles of music for the non-science major. This course will cover such areas as: simple harmonic motion, wave motion, resonance, interference, standing waves, and the overtone series. Fourier and spectrum analysis, the human ear and voice, musical instruments including temperament, pitch, percussion. No background in physics needed but high school algebra will be used.
