SOC 297C Topic: Self and Society

New Core: Fulfills 3 credits in Area of Knowledge V (Analysis of Human, Social, and Natural Phenomena).

Course Description: This course examines the emergence of the "self" in western and global societies. Using various sociological perspectives and methods, the self is seen as a social product, imbued with appearance, ideology, culture and interpersonal meaning. We will explore how the self is performed and constructed and will examine the collage of selves that constitute the individual.
