Psychology Major, BA

(NYC, PLV)

This major prepares students for graduate school in both research and applied psychology and for entry-level employment in many fields of human services. 

Note that a prerequisite for this program is PSY 112 - Intro to Psychology (4 credits) taken either as a University Core Curriculum requirement or an Open Elective.

University Core – (44-55)

Major Courses – NYC 44 credits; PLV 47 credits

Eight Required Major Courses: (32 credits)

NYC Major required courses do not include PSY 323 (Psy. of Learning)

PLV Major required courses include either PSY 323 (Psy. of Learning) or PSY 315 (Cognitive Psychology)

NYC student majors take 12 credits of any 200 level and/or 300 level PSY courses from the following lists:
--3 credit courses: PSY 215, 209, 227, 231, 241, 302, 303, 307, 318, 320, 321, 323, 390, 395, 396
--4 credit courses: PSY 306, 313, 327, 328, 332, 337, 391, 392

PLV student majors take 15 credits of any 200 level and/or 300 level PSY courses

Open Electives - (25-37 credits)

NYC majors:  Take 25-37 Open Elective credits.

PLV majors:   Take 25-37 Open Elective credits.

Among required Open Elective credits are UNV 101 - Freshman Seminar (required of all first-year freshman students) and PSY 112 if not taken for University Core credit. 

Total Credit Hours: 128
